On Saturday 18th
May, Bude Town Band hosted a very successful concert with the Chivenor Military
Wives Choir.
The concert was held at Penstowe Manor Kilkhampton to a sell out audience.
This
was the first time the choir has performed in North Cornwall.
Bude Town Band first conceived the idea of a joint concert with the Military Wives
back in early 2012, but due to the commitments of the up and coming choir, this
was the first opportunity the choir and band had at getting together.
The audience enjoyed two musically packed halves of both the Military Wives and
Bude Town Band performing a wide variety of music. The band played the Military
Wives ‘Wherever You Are' to the choir as they took the stage to perform, it was
the first time the choir had heard their famous song performed by a
brass band. The choir later went on to give an amazing performance of the
song themselves.
The compere James Morrish delighted the audience with great stand up comedy and
helped with the raffle. The raffle was kindly run for us by Elaine Miles from Barclays
Bank, Barclays Bank run a £4£ scheme which allows their employees to raise
money for local charities, Barclays will then match fund any amount of money
their employee raises up to £750.
The evening was a huge success and the proceeds of the evening will go
towards the band's New Hall Fund and The Military Wives Charity.
Bude Town Band would like to thank everybody that supported the event,
especially Nigel Buse and his staff at Penstowe Manor. Kilkhampton Post Office, Bude Post Office, The
Candy Shop and all the individual people that sold tickets. James Morrish of
Kivells Auctioneers, Holsworthy for compering the evening. Bob Willingham of Studio Southwest who very
kindly took photographs of the evening. Elaine Miles from Barclays Bank for
running the raffle and to all the local businesses that donated prizes for our
raffle and also the businesses that sponsored our programme for the concert
